Paula's journey: from classroom to compassionate storytelling
For over 18 years, Paula Robertson has nurtured young minds as a Primary School teacher. Her lifelong love of storytelling, honed through creating vibrant story classes, took a profound turn after the challenges of Covid. Witnessing the escalating mental health needs in education and beyond, Paula founded 'Bearing Up' – a community-based project dedicated to supporting children and adults in school communities across Scotland and further afield.
"Bearing Up was born from my own journey with mental health and is written in such a way that no matter who you are you too will truly see yourself, perhaps for the first time ever…"

More than a story: a journey of self-discovery and connection
Paula's deepest hope is that readers, regardless of their background, will find a piece of themselves within the pages of her book and the ethos of Bearing Up. She aims to foster a sense of recognition, understanding, and shared experience, ensuring that every individual feels seen and valued. This is much more than just a story; it's an invitation to explore emotions, build resilience, and connect with a community that cares deeply about mental well-being.

The creative spark: weaving wellbeing into every stroke
Paula's unique fusion of teaching expertise and a profound understanding of mental health shapes her creative process. Her lifelong passion for bringing stories to life through play now finds its most vital expression in addressing critical wellbeing needs. Every word and concept is thoughtfully crafted to resonate deeply, empowering both children and adults. She continues to collaborate with schools, embedding the principles of 'Bearing Up' where they are needed most.
About the Illustrator: Since childhood in North Ayrshire, Evan's artwork has been a constant force and tool helping to express complex and deep emotions. As a neurodivergent person, Evan has faced adversity and found it challenging to feel understood and accepted. Although, with time, Evan came to the same revelation as Little Bear: It is important to find your worth and value from within and not from other people's approval.
Evan graduated with an animation degree from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee. Versatile in style, Evan's interpretation of Little Bear and his friends reflects impressive artistic skill.
