Co/Self Regulating ‘Fizzy Feelings’ setting a Bearing Up context.🧸💕

After heading back into the infant classes, I was thinking about the self registration ‘Fizzy Feelings Chart’ I did with one of my previous classes. I have come up with a more infant friendly version for P1 - P3.

Just as a reminder/side note - this is optional for the children to use and is only introduced as part of establishing a respectful and safe classroom environment.

Each child could have their own bear template (They could decorate their bear first and add their own name before laminating to use, as part of a lesson discussing each feeling and their colour, how it works etc…) The coloured bubble emojis represent their ‘Fizzy Feelings.’ When they are feeling ‘fizzy’ the children are trained how to self-regulate which starts with recognising the feeling/s they are having. Again you could do this through bear - can give examples of bear situations and ask them what emotion do you think bear is feeling - pop it on your bear (discuss etc…), building up to how they feel and own examples. They can also explore that they might feel more than one emotion at a time and link back to visual of fizzy bottle emotions. That’s a quick rough guide that will be added to, but just thought I’d share for those looking for a context to explore feelings/emotions and regulation strategies through bear. 😬 x

Note - I have also changed Joy to Calm (as the dominant wording) at the bottom of the feelings chart. For those who are new here, the colours link to the Inside Out Characters, my picture Book Bearing Up and the Decider Skills. If you are already using Zones of Regulation - you could use/change the colours to match. See photo example provided. Here I have also changed ‘calm’ to run vertically as well. (This demonstrates how adaptable the strategies are that can be utilised through a Bearing Up Approach.) The emotions are displayed vertically to help children recognise that all emotions are valued equally and that you can be experiencing more than one emotion at a time. Rather than Anger being at the top and assumed as the reason a child is at their ‘fizziest.’ This adaption also shows that the emotion ‘calm/happy’ is valued equally alongside the other emotions. Hence why ‘Fizzy Feelings Matter’ grew to be ‘All Feelings Matter.’

This is the Recognise part of Recognise, Reflect, Reset, Return.
