What is Behaviour Management?
In a classroom with ever increasing needs how do we manage ‘behaviour’ within it? 🤔 Do we need to consult with a thousand different behaviour management books, podcasts, articles, scripts etc…? The truth is and when you accept it, it will set you free, is that the only behaviour you can manage is the person you can control and that’s you!
Do I make sure I stay regulated when I am surrounded by dis-regulated individuals? Do I remind myself that negative behaviours displayed in my classroom are not for me to take personally? Do I make sure I model kindness, empathy, understanding and accountability? Am I reflecting out the behaviours I want to receive? Am I building genuine relationships and connections that when relationships rupture there is a foundation there that can be repaired? Am I remembering that ‘Restorative Practice’ is only valid if there are relationships to restore? Am I validating my pupils needs without judgement?
When I am asked if I am doing all I can to ensure behaviour management is strong within my practice, I hold my head high and say yes - I am always managing to the best of my ability the one person I can control. The proof is in the reflection of my pupils. 🧸💕
